he body state. Feeling is not the push; it is the perception of the push. - **COGNITION → FOUNDATION.** Information processing populates the configuration space over which the principle operates. - **COGNITIVE_AWARENESS → the principle made reflexive.** The ego observing its own selection. Metacognition. - **CONSCIOUS → DYNAMICS as lived.** The trajectory in the present tense. Being awake *in* the motion. - **CONSCIOUSNESS → the field itself.** The totality the system models. The load-bearing distinction is EMOTION vs FEELING (Damasio): collapse them and you collapse the kinetic term into its own measurement — the Lagrangian structure goes with it. In dev terms: don't feed the sensor reading back in as the actuator signal. The compendium: fifty figures across psychology, psychiatry, and sociology (Freud, Jung, James, Damasio, LeDoux, Ekman, Beck, Kahneman, Piaget, Vygotsky, Flavell, Jaspers, Sacks, Durkheim, …), each mapped to which of the six terms their work illuminates. It's a structural exercise — fifty partial maps of the same configuration space, none owning the whole — not a literature review. It lives as data in `sandbox/lagrangian_cognitive_sandbox.py`. ## 4. Why it works even when it seems it shouldn't The objection writes itself: a physics equation has no business describing a mind. Here's why it does, in engineering terms: **The Lagrangian is a normal form.** The way a normalized schema or a canonical AST is a normal form: a shape you parse things into, after which the structure becomes transparent and manipulable. Feed the five slots anything — masses, thoughts, feelings — and each element is forced to declare its office: what moves, what constrains, what accumulates, what varies, what's fixed. **The parse is exhaustive.** §1's five slots cover the whole logical space of selection-among-possibilities. That's why everything fits: there's nowhere else for it to go and no slot left empty. Chaos going in isn't a problem — it was unordered material waiting for the form. **The form type-checks.** Prose tolerates anything — you can write a paragraph where a constraint pretends to be a drive and nobody notices. The equation doesn't tolerate it. Misplace a term and the math punishes you: dynamics go stiff, the action doesn't extremize, the variation produces garbage. Nothing gets to be wasteful, over-expressed, or under-evaluated, because every term has to do work in the equation or the system visibly breaks. The form rejects misplacement the way a type system rejects a type error. **It's scale-free.** The five-state demo isn't a toy model of the principle — it's an *instance* of it. The law doesn't change with scale. This is the single most load-bearing claim in the document: if the form is truly scale-free, then verification at small scale is verification, full stop. **The triangulation is a sieve.** ID admits only push, SUPEREGO admits only shape, EGO admits only determination. Each office refuses what doesn't belong to it — a rule can't smuggle itself in as a landscape, a drive can't disguise itself as a law. **"It treats everything as what it truly is: physics."** Read precisely: not "everything is made of matter," but *to be physical is to be under variational law* — to be a system that selects among possibilities according to a principle. The Lagrangian doesn't impose physics on the mind; it reveals the mind was always physical in the one sense that matters: lawful. ## 5. The proof (what actually runs) `sandbox/lagrangian_correct_way.py` — one field, one equation: - The state is (q, p): position and momentum of the self in a 2D configuration space. - ID is the initial push (q₁ − q₀ = v₀·dt): one line, knows no hill. - SUPEREGO is V(q): a Gaussian hill — forbidden ground as *shape*. Zero avoidance code anywhere in the file. - EGO is not an object. It is the Störmer–Verlet update *derived* from δS_d = 0, sitting bare in the loop. No enumeration of alternatives, no scoring, no argmax. (The earlier version'
