What this document is Not a metaphor, not a pitch. A spec of the substrate everything here runs on, written the way you'd explain a system to another engineer: what the parts are, how they connect, what's proven, and what's still hypothesis. Anything below that hasn't been run says so. ## 1. The equation, stripped Take the Lagrangian of classical mechanics, L = T − V, and delete every trace of physics and mathematics. What survives isn't an equation anymore — it's a schema with five slots. These five words, in this order, are the whole thing: - **FOUNDATION** — a scalar evaluation over a space of possible states. The ground. In code: the cost/potential function. Everything the system could be, scored. - **DYNAMICS** — traversal through that space. Motion is the default; nothing stays put without a reason. In code: the state update, the thing that moves. - **PRINCIPLE** — the realized traversal extremizes the accumulated foundation. Out of all possible paths, the one taken is the stationary one. In code: the optimizer — but not a search. A law. - **ENTROPY** — all possible traversals versus the one realized. The branching factor. Every decision collapses it. In code: the ensemble, the perturbation space, the paths not taken. - **PERIMETER** — fixed endpoints. Variation happens between what is held constant. In code: boundary conditions, pinned state, invariants. Why five, and why these five: they exhaust the logical space of "a system doing this rather than that." Something must be scored (foundation), something must move (dynamics), something must select (principle), there must be alternatives not taken (entropy), and something must be fixed while the rest varies (perimeter). There is no remainder. That's the first reason the form is load-bearing: it's complete. ## 2. Where the psyche plugs in (the triangulation) Freud's three, placed into the schema — not as analogy, as assignment: - **ID → DYNAMICS (T).** Pure push. It drives and knows no constraint. In code: the injected momentum / residual. It does not know the landscape exists. - **SUPEREGO → FOUNDATION-as-potential (V).** The shaped landscape of permitted and forbidden — carved by development, culture, experience. Crucially it is *height*, not rules. There is no instruction "don't go there"; there is only ground that is expensive to cross. In code: the potential function. - **EGO → PRINCIPLE.** Not an object. Not a chooser. The update equation itself — what T and V *determine*. The step is derived, never selected. In code: the integrator (Störmer–Verlet, derived from δS = 0 — see §5). - **ENTROPY → the unconscious.** All unrealized trajectories. Everything the system could have done and didn't. - **PERIMETER → the non-negotiable givens.** What's pinned while everything else varies. Status: this mapping is the architectural hypothesis. Coherent, executable (see §5), unproven at full scale. This document marks every claim that way. ## 3. The psychological layer (why the terms don't collapse) Six terms, each pinned to a distinct slot so they can't be used interchangeably. Collapsing any two breaks the structure — that's the point of the taxonomy: - **EMOTION → DYNAMICS (T).** The bodily program: autonomic, hormonal, expressive, action-tendency cascades. Automatic, measurable, largely subcortical. Emotion is the push *in the body*. - **FEELING → PRINCIPLE-adjacent readout.** The conscious mental experience *of* the emotion — the mind's perception of t
